Warning: Attendees list

More and more emails are being sent in attempts to scam exhibitors and visitors to The Harrogate Bridal Show

It’s definitely not the first time we’ve heard of something like this, but yet again, the industry has seen a fake company scamming visitors and exhibitors. The latest email we’ve received reads:

Hi, Hope you are doing well.

I understand that your company is Participating/Exhibiting at Harrogate Bridal Show 2017.

Would you be interested in an Attendees list for Multi-Channel Marketing?

We have available 3000+ Confirmed Attendees complete contact information including Opt-in email address and direct phone numbers.

Awaiting your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Letters and emails like this have been making the rounds, with many asking for recipients to verify data regarding their business or offering listing in its online directory – and then invoicing the company with heavy fees for the ‘service’. Usually fees are hidden in the small print and those who fall victim will never see their money again.

While the scammers have become clever with their tactics, it’s worth checking email addresses and information regarding the company sending you the message. A quick Google can show a dodgy URL or an unprofessional website, which is normally the first indication of a scam.

We want to express once again that these correspondences are nothing to do with Ocean Media, owners of The Harrogate Bridal Show, The London Bridal Show and White Gallery London. If you are ever unsure, give us or the show team a call and we can double check the veracity of these ‘deals’.
