Tell us a bit about your brand

My brand very much reflects who I am. I design new items that are my own style. I design pieces I love to wear for every day occasions as well as eye-catching statement pieces that stand out. My ambition is to make women shine when they wear my jewellery, that’s why all my pieces are set with sparkling cubic zirconia and are available at affordable prices.

And how about your personal background?

I was born in Iceland and travelled Sweden and Italy where my love for jewellery grew before moving to Copenhagen where I established my brand. I met my husband Soren in Copenhagen and he is now the CEO of our company. Together we have a three-year-old son, Sixten – who is the cutest little mini-me.

What inspired you to start Sif Jakobs?

I worked in the jewellery industry for years before establishing my own brand. I love to create and design... and I love being my own boss. When I established the company, I couldn’t see anything that looked the same as my style, so I decided to create a jewellery brand with an elegant and edgy design aesthetic.

What are your secrets to success?

To work hard and believe in yourself and your product. There will always be bumps on the way but it’s the challenges that make you stronger. Also, always stick to your design DNA even though trends dictate otherwise.

What’s your greatest achievement so far?

My lovely son Sixten. That’s the greatest gift and achievement I have made in my life.

Who’s your greatest female inspiration?

Victoria Beckham. She’s such a cool cat and a caring mother. I love her attitude and her self-irony… and of course her amazing style.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is when I see women wear my jewellery and loving it. To see a woman’s joyful expression when gifted with a piece of jewellery simply melts my heart; that’s when I feel I have succeeded.

What does your typical working day look like?

I don’t have a typical working day, but I’ll try to describe one anyway:

  • Soren and I drive to work together in the morning after having taken our son to Kindergarten.
  • On the way in we always discuss work-related issues that need to be sorted out before arriving to the office.
  • When I get into work, I have people constantly asking me questions. Our office is spread across two floors so I usually run up and down the stairs 40-50 times a day – it’s a great work out!
  • I meet with my marketing team and sometimes we discuss new collaborations and partners with our agents and distributors, and sometimes I have press meetings with journalists. We operate in 20 countries at the moment so there is a lot of approval, coordination and following up.
  • Designing new styles and collections is usually something I do at home or on vacations because I can focus there.

Can you tell us five interesting facts about yourself?

1. I have a Harley Davidson motor bike and drive it whenever the weather permits.

2. As a child I dreamed of being an architect but after attending a candlestick moulding course I somehow ended up in jewellery. It’s funny how things take you on certain routes.

3. My secret addiction is Coca Cola – I can’t live without it.

4. I have three siblings and they all live in Iceland. I miss them but try to see them as often as possible.

5. My favourite vacation is skiing in the Alps, I love the mountains and the fresh air. I’m going to take our son there for the first time this coming season.
