Can you tell us about Team Hen and the history of the brand?

Team Hen’s reign over the hen party world started way back in 2014 - when willy straws and tackier concoctions were rife… and best forgotten. I spotted a gap in the market, and Team Hen was born wielding unique gift ideas that brides (and their tribes) wouldn’t be able to resist.

Armed with my MacBook and a request from my best friend to plan her hen party, I accidentally kickstarted Team Hen. I had no idea that it would grow into the brand and the business it is today. With its engaged following and Instagram-worthy products in tow, we’re grateful to be loved by brides across the UK and beyond.

As a Mum of two young children, Team Hen started small. We soon grew and now we operate from a light-industrial unit where we laser-cut and engrave our products, hand-pour candles, mix bath salts and pack our orders with the upmost care and attention to detail.

With an ever-growing team (all Mums, with a variety of ‘former-life’ careers) we work flexibly around our childcare commitments to bring our customers quality and value, all beautifully wrapped in Team Hen’s signature packaging.

How have the products been received by the consumer?

Our products are crafted with care and meticulously designed, ensuring they are always well received. Having been in the business for over seven years, as a brand we know our customer inside out and we’re small and agile enough to be able to move quickly when it comes to emerging trends and design concepts.

The hardest part of growing the brand, is getting our name out there. Our Instagram account is flooded with comments like ‘OMG, I love everything’ followed by multiple tags to bridesmaids and friends - so offering wholesale to bridal boutiques is a win-win; they get small, low-cost yet beautiful, at-till, add-on purchases while we benefit from the brand awareness aspect. It’s a no-brainer.

Can you tell us about your products?

Team Hen started out life as modern hen party favours - you won’t find any flashing tiaras, L-plates or willy straws here. As our customer base has grown, so in turn have our products, with our Bridesmaid Proposal gifts becoming a perennial bestseller.

During the recent pandemic we realised hen party products alone wouldn’t see us through, so we took time to carefully expand our product offering to brides and the wider bridal party. We recognised that lockdown called for a range of thoughtful, pick-me-up gifts to lift spirits and keep the wedding planning vibe alive for the bride-to-be.

Everything we stock and produce we would buy ourselves - I can’t design or sell products I don’t like; this ensures a cohesive look and feel amongst our product lines. Every product fits seamlessly alongside every other product, but can stand alone at the same time.

Do you have a hero product (most popular)?

Team Hen’s luxury candles have proved to be the most popular product amongst our wholesale customers. Not only do we have multiple designs to choose from, but each candle is painstakingly made and hand-poured by us, ensuring top-quality every time.

A close second are our heavenly scented Himalayan bath soaks - again, mixed by hand. Composed of a heady mix of Himalayan pink salt, epsom salt, lavender and dried rose petals, not only do they perk up your bathroom shelfie but make for the perfect gift for the stressed-out bride.

Both are presented in our signature pink, eco-cotton pouch, which adds that exclusive Team Hen touch to luxury gift-giving.

What key products would you recommend to a first time wholesale buyer?

Team Hen’s bridal self-care collection not only brings a truly Instagram-worthy selection of wellness products to the floor, but work effortlessly together as a range. Plus, with all of our indulgent designs (candles, melts, bath soaks and bath bombs) available for the Bride, Bridesmaids, Maid of Honour and Mother of the Bride and Groom, there really is something for everyone. Tastefully packaged in Team Hen’s signature style, they’ll sit perfectly till-side or elegantly displayed on shelves in your boutique.

Notably, we have also just launched our white-label service, where we offer the aforementioned products either blank (for you to attach your own labels) or affixed with your own logo/branded design (which we can manage and print in-house).

If you had to describe Team Hen in three words, what would they be?

Contemporary, cool, pink!

Why have you made the decision to go into wholesale?

We experienced an influx of wholesale requests during lockdown from bridal boutiques keen to stock our new candles and bath soaks. It’s not an avenue we had previously considered, but there are so many beautiful bridal boutiques out there - that our products would look divine in - it made complete sense. We designed a look book/catalogue and things kickstarted from there.

What is the wholesale price range of the Team Hen products?

Our ethos has always been about offering good value, quality designed products to our customers, and this is exactly what we now offer wholesale, with our prices starting at just £0.60 + VAT.

With experience in selling hen party products in large quantities, keeping our prices modest has always been key, rather than pricing out large groups. Our most expensive wholesale product is our boxed bridesmaid gift set, which we wholesale for £8.00 + vat, and retail for £19.99.

As we produce and sell all our products direct to the customer, we can offer our stockists low minimum order values and no MOQ, so you can mix and match the products and quantities you stock.
