Sometimes it feels like we live in a world of fast trends and fleeting fashion, and Sanyukta Shrestha is a real antidote to this. The designer stands apart with her design philosophy that’s rooted in authenticity and compassionate creativity. Guided not by what’s en vogue, but by what makes women feel truly beautiful, her bridal creations are deeply inspired by the natural world and her rich Nepalese heritage.

A pioneer in sustainable couture, Sanyukta is tireless in her pursuit of innovative, eco-friendly materials, weaving together ethics and elegance. Her kind and gentle nature infuses everything she does – from her thoughtful design process to the way she connects with each bride – creating not just dresses harmoniously with deeply personal experiences. Here we get to know her better…

What was the moment you knew you wanted to work in bridal?

It was the warmth and care needed for the bride – the moment you see them – it made me feel this is the right industry for me.

Describe your work in three words. No overthinking!

Compassionate, original and innovative.

What’s one bridal trend you’re loving right now – and one you’re ready to retire?

I am loving the rise of unique dramatic couture designs in bridal. I think we are ready to retire from stereo type mass produced bridal dresses. Brides are more adventurous, experimental, and at the same time mindful in this era.

Who in the industry inspires you – past or present – and why?

Oh, so many to be inspired from. In terms of designer in specific I love Coco Chanel, I loved her drive, persistence and uniqueness during her era. She was well before her time, and I love that.

What’s one part of your job that never feels like “work”?

It has to be the creative process – working with our highly skilled women artisans in villages of Nepal, to final finishings with very talented seamstresses in the UK. It is joy to bring each peace alive with its distinctive organic characteristics, which exemplifies the beauty and trust of our brides.

What’s one behind-the-scenes secret people wouldn’t expect about your role?

I love to take care of everything and everyone around me. From the head of the company role, to helping my staff with cleaning and dusting when needed! For me work is work no matter how big or small.

What’s your go-to way to get inspired when you’re in a creative rut?

My magic formula is to spend more time in nature, whether admiring or nurturing. And you get a 100% bounce-back effect.

What is a bridal myth you wish more people understood wasn’t true?

‘Your wedding dress is the biggest decision in life’, this terrifies and puts so much pressure on brides. In fact, the biggest part is already done when they say yes to the love of their life.  The wedding dress offers huge happiness to the bride, but it signifies the beginning of a lasting journey with their partner.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about working in bridal – or fashion in general?

Stay calm no matter what situation you are in.

Is there a dream collaboration or project you’d love to do someday?

Oh yes, there are a lot. I would definitely share it once it happens!

What’s the most unexpectedly emotional moment you’ve had on the job?

‘Do not cry nor be so excited’. I find being in neutral emotion at work gives grace and empowerment.

Complete the sentence: “The future of bridal is…”

“The future of bridal is GREEN!” I said this 15years ago and I still believe it.
