Founded in the 1930s, Paloma Blanca has a long history in bridal – it’s a brand that’s known by the industry for its attention to detail and glorious fabric selection, not to mention the care and attention paid at customer service level. At the heart of the business is the fact it was launched in Canada as a family company all those years ago; to this day it remains based in Toronto and is still run by the Bernstein family.

So, what can we expect from this renowned brand’s latest collection? At London Bridal Week we saw the launch of its new designs – gowns expertly crafted from the highest quality fabrics stunning accent details, as well as hand beading and embroidery.

Brides will love the sheer elegance of the dresses, they’re sophisticated and chic but with attention paid to contemporary trends, especially in terms of silhouette and cut. The stunning designs certainly caught the eyes of the Bridal Buyer team, which is why Paloma Blanca is our cover star this month. “We have 20 stockists in the UK," says the brand’s Marie Campion Murphy.

“We offer customisation on all of the gowns; for example, if a customer needs the dress to be a size 12 on top and a size 14 on the bottom we can cater for this. Plus, all of the gowns are lined in silk which is something we are well known for.”

“The dresses all come with beaded belts that are all hand finished in Canada. We offer flexibility with these too; they can be changed from style to style. So, you could have the belt from one put onto another. We can change and mix a range of appliqués, too,” adds Marie.

The collection incorporates a variety of decadent, really sumptuous materials that offer graceful movement – as well, of course, as providing a wonderful drape on the body. A number of the dresses feature the ultra-feminine and romantic French Alencon lace, its intricate design together with a smooth and delicate texture add a glorious finish.

We also see the use of Chantilly lace, soft organza and Italian tulle throughout, each used to emphasise the soft and romantic nature of the designs as well as adding texture and interest.

The silhouettes are slim and long. There are a variety of fit and flair and mermaid styles, as well as some softer and flowing A-line dresses, which feature detailed bodices and fuller, yet still graceful, skirts.

For brides who want that something a little bit extra, there’s also a dress (style 4805) that features a removable sequin Chantilly lace caplet, which adds drama to the crepe fit and flare gown. It’s contemporary and elegant in equal measure – modern brides will adore it.

So, with our interest heightened by this stylish and romantic new range, when will we be able to see more from the brand? Paloma Blanca releases two collections each year, and the fashion house will be displaying new designs at Harrogate this September. It’s too early to predict what styles we will see, but we know the dresses will follow the tradition of elegance, romance and glamour. Watch this space.
