Designers can now buy fabrics online from Pongees’ new website - and they share their top material picks for the year ahead
The new website for fabric company Pongees has now gone live and designers are able to buy their specialist silk fabrics online.
The company, which started in Switzerland in the mid-19th century as Ostertag Hausamann Faes, quickly became a leading silk trader. The London office was opened in 1931 under the name Pongees Ltd, taking the distinctive name from the term for a popular group of Chinese silks.
With their many years of experience, Pongees understand bridal trends and have offered their opinion on what is set to be huge for the year ahead.
“Colour is coming into its own,” say the silk specialists at Pongees, “Our collection is full of romantic hues of blush, soft pink, sky blue and silver. The laces have flashes of metallic thread, 3D embroidery and other embellishments.”
Nick Moore, Joint Managing Director at Pongees, thinks the style of wedding dresses is set to shift dramatically too: “After several years of daring, plunging necklines and glimpses of flesh, 2019 will see a return to a more refined and demure design ethos. Think Audrey Hepburn in vintage Balenciaga.”
The brand also believes that the glam-rock era of the 70s will be a key trend for brides and their attendants.
Consider voluminous French organza billowing over tight Duchess satin corsets to achieve this look, or mix seductive georgette with figure-hugging velvet waistcoats. Satins with a high sheen can add shimmer to on-trend jumpsuits, and layers of iridescent tulles will catch eyes and capture imaginations.
For the bridal party, look for warm tropical shades such as deep magenta, dark berry, canary yellow, rich teals and exotic tangerines to add an explosion of colour to the line up.
