There’s a simple message here. Think colour, think glamour, think luxury touches, be it for eveningwear, bridesmaids or MOBs. Prints are splashed over the fashion headlines, ranging from abstract graphics to a wonderland of wild flowers, and plains have a top-dressing of contrast-colour embroideries or bands of sparkling stones. Long or short, straight or curvy, the latest collections set out to make an impression. Veni Infantino for Ronald Joyce has wrought changes by introducing wraps with a twist and gorgeous long-length jackets instead of the ubiquitous bolero, while Mascara has gone all out for sexy, body-clinging silhouettes which owe more to the red carpet than to the traditional party.

For bridesmaids, the wrap-it-all-ways dress remains key, but prints are moving to the forground here and especially fabulous in separates that the girls can pick and choose from. It’s a young, fresh look, and one you have to have in store to show you mean business.

The London Bridal Show, with more than 200 collections from top names in the bridal arena, is the undoubted platform for trends, and the place to pick up on inspired thinking from the designers. Expect to see plenty of glittering highlights in the many cocktail and eveningwear collections on show, with bands of sparkling beadwork, layered embroideries (some so intricate your think you’re looking at lace), and gleaming buttons, jewelled belts and silky floral features.
