With over one billion monthly active users and more than 500 million of them using the platform every day, Instagram has become the perfect platform for showcasing professional photography, supported by custom hashtags and ‘made for Insta’ visual moments.

This means that when brides are shopping for their wedding dress, they are also picturing how it will look on their Instagram and deciding if it is ‘Insta-worthy’.

This makes wedding fashion, for both the happy couple and the guests in attendance, a huge commercial opportunity for brands and retailers, with millions of customers searching for the outfit that will generate the most likes on the day.

Research gathered by global fashion search platform Lyst revealed that:

  • There are more wedding specific outfit searches each year than there are for Christmas parties.
  • Wedding hashtags get on average x10 more engagement than holiday hashtags.
  • The average cost of a wedding dress has increased and is up 12%.
  • More than 23% of brides on Lyst opt for two wedding dresses.
  • Wedding guests are spending 26% more on their wedding outfit than they did 2 years ago.
  • The average length of engagement has increased, giving couples longer to plan and save.

Instagram is a key platform for fashion retailers and is excellent for brand awareness and engaging with your customers. Additionally, fashion brands receive three times more interactions than any other brands on Instagram and have a three times larger audience on the site, so it is essential that you have an online presence.

Keeping up to date with the latest online trends, following relevant hashtags and actively sharing and liking on Instagram will all help towards building your online presence and if done correctly can lead to more customers, more traffic and more engagement.
