We Visited the World’s First Wedding Department Store

We headed to the world’s first wedding department store – the Wedding Gallery at One Marylebone – to see how a one-stop bridal shop works

The Wedding Gallery is now officially open, so we headed there for breakfast to find out more about it. It’s situated in the heart of London, in a contemporary, high ceilinged location beneath wedding venue One Marylebone.

The World-Centre for Wedding Planning

The incredible space spans 20,000sq ft and has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment designed to make it the epicentre of wedding planning across the globe – as was explained at the opening, the aim is to make London the centre of the world for wedding planning.

It takes 75 minutes for a couple to explore this wedding wonderland, taking in the latest inspiration, trends and fashion in the world of weddings. Every aspect of wedding planning is covered at this appointment-only destination.

What Awaits in the Wedding Gallery

Couples will be greeted by a Wedding Gallery Consultant who will guide them through the store – starting with the Trends Area which is a striking display of the latest wedding trends, curated by leading stylists from across the world.

Guests can also experience the Perfumery – stocked with gorgeous collections from leading brands, and the Urban Retreat at the Wedding Gallery – which boasts cutting-edge treatments for brides and grooms. There’s also the Wedding Shop Gift List Boutique, a Jewellery Department, and a library which is home to portfolios of venues and event suppliers.

“The Wedding Gallery is the world’s first permanent wedding planning, retail and inspiration destination,” explains Lotte Martin, co-curator at The Wedding Gallery. “Open seven days a week and all year round, it is a hub of trends, ideas and creativity for the wedding industry.

“It also houses a members club including a café, bar, meeting rooms, events spaces and an Urban Retreat salon. It’s the go-to destination for anyone planning a wedding, attracting aspirational couples across the globe.

“The Wedding Gallery is open to everyone. It is an aspirational, creative space that naturally appeals to couples with a strong sense of style and desire for a bespoke celebration. Many couples today lead busy lives with very little time for wedding planning; The Wedding Gallery aims to take away the stress by bringing together a curated collection of brilliant brands under one roof and allowing couples to create their dream day in one place.”

Bridal Fashion Experience

Brides can see the latest designs from Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Temperley London and more, and can also shop for their shoes, lingerie and accessories, whilst their mums and bridesmaids browse for their outfits. For the grooms, there is a menswear department housing some of the finest tailoring you could hope to find.

There are also displays from renowned cake makers, stationers and florists all designed to inspire couples as they plan. Upon leaving, couples receive a copy of the ‘Wedding Edit’ – a keepsake booklet that reflects their style.

It costs £50 for a 75 minute experience and includes a glass of champagne for up to four people and free membership to the Club for the year.

Brides and grooms can also take advantage of a fashion styling appointment which lasts one hour and costs £30.
