The official government guidelines state that ‘All retail is permitted to be open.’ Since the official re-open date on 15th June, the government have added a number of rules including face coverings must be worn by customers in shops and supermarkets from 24th July and from 24 September, staff in retail and hospitality settings are required to wear a face covering and all businesses must remind customers to wear a face covering where mandated, such as by displaying posters.

The three-tier system will come into effect from 00.01 on Wednesday 14th October. We’ve pulled together the Government guidelines for people ‘Visiting other venues, including shops, restaurants, pubs and places of worship’ in each of the three tiers below.

Venues following COVID-secure guidance can host more people in total, but no one must mix indoors in groups larger than 6, unless you all live together, or are in the same support bubble. This includes in:

pubs and restaurants

shops

leisure and entertainment venues

places of worship

At least one person in your group should give their contact details to the venue or check in using the official NHS COVID-19 app so NHS Test and Trace can contact you if needed.
