To say happy birthday to Karren Brady, the successful businesswoman is Bridal Buyer’s first ever Wonder Woman this Wednesday. Wonder Woman Wednesday is a new feature Bridal Buyer has launched today. We will bring you weekly profiles on successful businesswomen, inside bridal and external to our industry, with the hope to inspire and motivate you within your own businesses.

You may recognise Karren for her role as Alan Sugar’s sidekick on the popular television show, The Apprentice, however, we love the fact that her business background spans across a variety of other impressive sectors.

Previously the managing director of Birmingham F.C. and currently the Vice-Chairman of West Ham United F.C., Karren is known as The First Lady of Football. More recently, Karren was appointed chairman of Taveta by Sir Philip Green, chairman of the extensive Arcadia Group which includes well-known brands like Topshop and Wallis.

Whist Karren’s business success means she’s working with some of the biggest names in the game, her tenacity and drive has led her to work within the political field too. In 2014, Karren became a member of the House of Lords, taking the title Baroness Brady.

Finally, Karren’s skillset extends into writing, as she works closely with popular publications - Woman & Home, and The Sun. If you’re yet to be inspired by this Wonder Woman, try reading her Sunday Times Bestseller - Strong Woman – within which, Karren aims to empower women in business.

Here are five surprising facts about Karren Brady:

In 2006 she attended The Queen’s lunch for Women Achievers and Business Leaders.

In the same year, she underwent urgent neurosurgery.

In 2010 Karren was listed in the business category of The Sunday Telegraph’s ‘100 Most Powerful Women in Britain’.

Karren was also recognised as a ’Woman Who Has Changed The World’ by Cosmopolitan.

Finally, Karren is a mother to two children.

Here at Bridal Buyer, we’re inspired by Karren’s incredible achievements, and this is why we’ve made her the first in our Wonder Woman Wednesday series. If you know an inspiring woman in business that you’d like us to feature, please email sophie.braybrook@oceanmedia.co.uk.
