Brides are thinking ethically when it comes to jewellery, with fairtrade gold bridal sales jumping 60% this year.
In the first two quarters of 2015, ethical jeweler Cred Jewellery saw sales of their bridal collections increase year-on-year. Across the bridal ranges, sales increased by 60% for engagement rings, 50% on eternity rings and 46% for wedding rings.
Sales of fairtrade gold rings have seen the largest jump in sales, with more couples searching ethical options.
Cred director Alan Frampton said: “The figures speak for themselves. Young people are seeking sustainable sources for their food & clothing, and more and more couples want the same clear standards for their gold. Fairtrade gold is the best ethical, transparent & independently certified source of gold, and it is growing fast.”
If brides are putting more emphasis on ethical jewellery could they soon be wanting their gowns to be fairtrade too?
