Can you give us an introduction to Love Above Bridal?

Love Above Curve Bridal Lounge has been our passion project over the last 6 months, officially launching in April 2023. Dedicated to my late grandmother, Jeannie, whose ‘Best Lounge’ hosted many a happy celebration, we wanted to create a relaxed and forward-thinking haven for our brides seeking that stylish, modern gown paired with the perfect support and structure to empower curves.
Based on the second floor of our sister companies townhouse, You Are Precious Bridal, we had the perfect space earmarked to launch our dedicated curve lounge. This has created the perfect set-up as our team of passionate stylists can easily move dress samples between floors - opening up so many more style options for both our Love Above and You Are Precious brides, alongside additional stylist support throughout our appointments where needed.
We always pride ourselves on having a fully inclusive range of sample styles and sizes for our brides-to-be, however the bridal market has evolved in recent times, and we’ve seen a significant rise in repeat orders for our bridalwear in sizes 18-26. Our new curve lounge carries designer samples by Maggie Sottero, Madi Lane, Rebecca Ingram, Modeca Curve & key styles from across the Allure Bridal labels.

What was your process in designing the shop’s interior?

Being a Grade 2 listed building, we wanted to keep the traditional features of the sash windows and built-in shelving whilst transforming the lounge into a truly unique space for our brides.
We had the ceiling professionally removed due to there being Asbestos present. This ended up being a true labour of love, as due to the age and design of the property, the ceiling then required heavy repair works and deep cleaning before the rest of the works could continue. This was the biggest challenge of our project and yet the best decision that we made as it’s created such a strong aesthetic within the space!
We chose to have the walls fully re-plastered as a key design element and have kept this pure and raw – we love the effect against the dark woodwork of the ceiling it gives a really warm and relaxed feel to the space.
Finally, we dressed the lounge using heirloom pieces passed down from my late grandparents and beyond – we love the personal touch this gives and the history entwined into our everyday.

Can you tell us three interesting facts from Love Above?

- Love Above is focused on bringing modern styling tailored for curves by our team of soul sister stylists who work across our 3 sister studios – You Are Precious Bridal and Sisters of Grace – meaning our personal approach, wealth of gown knowledge and passion for being creative shines through at every appointment.
- Our lounge is named after the saying ‘Love Above All’ as our townhouse is one all inclusive bridal destination and our curve floor sits above You Are Precious.
- Love Above is designed as a Moroccan style love loft with exposed beamed ceiling and features my family heirloom treasures as key design pieces – we love having a little part of ‘The Brittons’ family history running throughout our showrooms.

Tell us about the bridal experience, and how you cater for the curvy bride?

Love Above is destined to empower curves, and we have hand chosen an array of designer styles that represent our modern, fashion forward bride in sample sizes 18-32, with key styles being able to be ordered up to a UK40.
Each dress is chosen for their support and structure without compromising on design. We’ve hand-chosen styles from our existing designer ranges so that our experience across our townhouse is seamless, we’re able to mix and match from different floors to meet our brides desires.
Like our sister showrooms, our lounge works by appointment and offers our personal one to one consultation with our dedicated stylists who are passionate about getting to know our LA brides, their day and their style before pairing the dreamiest dresses.
We’ve also specially designed our own edit of accessories, straps, flutter sleeves and full sleeves with our recommended seamstress team to allow for our brides to personalize their look to their gown where needed.

What steps can business owners take to make their store more inclusive?

  • Assess your collections and listen to your brides needs – use this as a tool when you’re next at market to improve and ensure your dress edit is as inclusive as possible.
  • Increase your sample size range – use your knowledge of design and structure to hand pick key styles to add to boutique rails.
  • Chat with your existing designers about current best selling curve styles that could give your offerings a real boost. It’s so important that your brides feel comfortable and reassured that they are able to try on at your store.
  • Be authentic with your advertising, ensure you promote exactly what you can offer. Include diverse imagery and be real with your brides on what you can offer to build confidence in your brand.
  • Feedback is key, use regular polls and take note from your appointments on what your brides are seeking, areas you can improve on and styles you may be missing from your rails – then adapt to this.

How do you celebrate a bride finding her dress?

One of our highlight moments is creating that yes magic with our brides-to-be. Celebrations with a glass of fizz, followed by ‘I said Yes to my Love Above Dress’ pictures of our brides with their guests, which are then designed and shared on our socials to shine on their moment. Our special LA gift bags filled with treats include choosing one of our signature Love Above accessories to take home.

If you had to give one piece of advice to another store owner, what would it be?

Inclusivity is so important in todays world. Always research – your area, your market, your brides and designer labels - This means you know what your brides desire, what’s available locally already and what you can then offer. Use this resource when you attend market to increase your size and style offerings.
