Shikoba Bride is the striking independent British bridal label from Becca Jenkinson for free-spirited brides. We chat with Becca ahead of White Gallery to find out more about the brand.
Shikoba Bride is the striking British boho bridal label, created by designer Becca Jenkinson. Established in 2017, Shikoba dresses have strong bohemian vibe for the adventure loving and free-spirited bride.
A suggested minimum of six looks to well represent the brand in boutique. Shikoba offers large exclusivity areas and have had brides travel large distances for the dresses, so its great to have a good selection for them to try.
Shikoba is at the heart of our boho collection, well-known for our signature fringed designs. We are unafraid to be different, a little disruptive, mixing up contemporary fabrics with striking silhouettes. The collections are fashion led, but always very wearable and comfortable.
That’s such a hard question to answer, I think the brands greatest achievement is simply the organic nature in which it’s grown. I’m really proud of the independence of the brand. Top secrets to success, I think its just working really hard, always stay true to the brands identity and not to follow the crowd. Doing your own thing with heart is always a good idea!
- Shikoba Bride just turned 5 years old in January.
- Shikoba is my 4th baby as I’m also mum to teenage triplets.
- The brand started out on my kitchen table.
- The dresses have been worn by brides all over the world.
- Every dress is named after someone I know.
Solstice, the new collection launching at White Gallery, is inspired by the seasons and passage of the earth as it revolves. I think our brides are quite spiritually aligned to nature, intuitive of the seasons, the phases of the moon and just connected to their surroundings. So the collection has taken inspiration from that freedom of spirit. I specifically chose fabrics that were a combination of romantic, flowing and bold botanical and geometric elements and juxtaposed them with contemporary shapes. It also takes almost a year from design to collection launch, so I really liked that affinity with the solstices.
The new Solstice collection has definitely been a natural evolution from our current Rapture collection, which is one of my favorites so far. I’ve continued some of the fabrics used with new additional exciting styles and sourced new companion fabrics and trims. I particularly love the embroidered silks, they are just so soft, feather light and so tactile.
I feel like the collection has a few personalities at play! The designs trends that have emerged from this collection have definitely been influenced by my love of the cottage core vibe, a bit romantic, flowing and sassy. Then there are also some edgy party pieces in there too! We shot the collection in Mallorca and the light and the different backdrops were just perfect for the varied looks.
I think there are a couple of big bridal trends emerging: there is definitely a bit of a romantic vibe, almost a bit of retro vintage to bridal at the minute, with free flowing styles, silks, tulles and lace. Sleeves too, all different styles from puff to one shoulder! At the same time, I feel on the flip of that, clean lines and pearls still seem to be popular too.
I love White Gallery, its always a really great event. Its always brilliant to catch up with our existing stockists as well as meeting new ones. Its the best opportunity to showcase new collections to the boutique owners and see their reactions to the dresses first hand. Nothing beats seeing the dresses in real life.
