Meet the brand: Maison SUZU

Designer Shiho Nohara launched Maison SUZU in 2012. Each piece is imagined and carefully constructed in their Tokyo atelier and loved by many brides across the globe - we chat with them to discover more.

Tell us how you fell in love with the bridal industry, and how your brand has evolved since.

I started to fall in love with the bridal industry when I made a wedding dress for my friend. The brand spread via SNS little by little through Japan - now it is loved by many brides!

What is the creative process like? Can you also tell us more about your studio and creative space?

We have two ateliers in Tokyo and London, with our atelier in Tokyo stocking more than 100 dresses. For each piece, I carefully choose the material myself, checking samples from all over the world. Every step of the process, including designing, pattern making and sewing, are done at the atelier.

What do you consider to be signature design elements of the brand?

Originally, I used to design costumes, hence why I tend to design for modern and unique brides. Our signature design elements include high quality material and sewing, and also an original atmosphere of romanticism.

What inspired Maison SUZU’s current collection?

I designed this collection after being inspired by different types of light, such as that of the dawning sky. This collection has a clarity that emerged by layering unique textiles in a simple silhouette. One piece that really highlights the vision of the collection is a dress called “Crystal” which has beads sewn throughout the entire gown. I picked this gown as the highlight of the collection because it has reflects the light made by our hand-sewn beads, and the flow of the skirt is particularly light and airy, representative of the overarching theme.

Why is White Gallery so important to you?

We have just opened the atelier in London in November 2023. We’d love to get to know buyers and spread to as many brides as possible. We are looking forward to having this opportunity to meet you all at White Gallery!

How can retailers get in touch to book an appointment with you at the show?
