Designer Shiho Nohara launched Maison SUZU in 2012. Each piece is imagined and carefully constructed in their Tokyo atelier and loved by many brides across the globe - we chat with them to discover more.
I started to fall in love with the bridal industry when I made a wedding dress for my friend. The brand spread via SNS little by little through Japan - now it is loved by many brides!
We have two ateliers in Tokyo and London, with our atelier in Tokyo stocking more than 100 dresses. For each piece, I carefully choose the material myself, checking samples from all over the world. Every step of the process, including designing, pattern making and sewing, are done at the atelier.
I designed this collection after being inspired by different types of light, such as that of the dawning sky. This collection has a clarity that emerged by layering unique textiles in a simple silhouette. One piece that really highlights the vision of the collection is a dress called “Crystal” which has beads sewn throughout the entire gown. I picked this gown as the highlight of the collection because it has reflects the light made by our hand-sewn beads, and the flow of the skirt is particularly light and airy, representative of the overarching theme.
