Tell us a little bit about your boutique and your company history

Laura May Bridal is an award winning bridalwear boutique that opened in 2011 and has quickly risen to become Wales’ leading bridal boutiques, presenting over twenty-five talented designers. At Laura May Bridal, our ethos is committed to creating a memorable and perfect buying experience for brides and their guests and to ensure you are truly immersed into the Laura May Bridal brand. Laura May Bridal is an accessible, aspirational, and trustworthy business that places the bride at the heart of everything we do. With a national customer base, our brides are willing to travel extensively to experience our seamlessly outstanding appointments that is tailored to all styles and price points. We now operate two stores, the Laura May Bridal Morgan Arcade Boutique and the Laura May Bridal Outlet where brides can purchase dresses off the peg for a lower price point.

What was your process in designing your shops interior?

The initial phase of our store’s interior design began with lots of mood-boarding, inspiration boards, working out what styles we love, interior trends and our design ambitions as well as projecting our realistic timescales and budget. It was at this initial stage we found the most difficult, how could we choose just one look and make sure that it communicated well to our brand, what we stood for and most importantly, our brides? What remained key to us was our brides, and recognising they all had unique styles. Thus, we created 4 distinctive rooms that would be tailored to each individually styled bride, yet remaining seamlessly connected to our branding. It was challenging to communicate our vision at the beginning, especially deciding on what distinctive looks we wanted. However, once the architectural designs were scaled, we knew this was the right decision.

Where did you find your inspiration for the interior design of your shop?

As an aspirational brand, we wanted to create a space that inspired, excited, and lavished our brides. We looked to Pinterest to get colour palette, texture and style inspiration whilst looking to the top bridalwear boutiques, especially those in the US, to gain inspiration for space and décor.

What are the key features of the new interior?

The words “I want to sit in the chair” is a phrase we hear all too often at Laura May Bridal! Our ‘I said yes’ swing is a key feature of our new interior. The infamous gold swing that is decorated with a pink floral display is a staple to our boutique and everyone wants to have their moment on our Instagram stories. It is important for our interior because the chair compliments the room décor whilst being a standout feature against a simple, branded wall. A branded feature that is continuously pictured and shared to brides globally.

What kind of space have you created?

Prior to their appointment, a preliminary phone consultation will take place to understand our bride’s needs and style on a personalised basis so we can tailor which room she will be in for her appointment. They are welcomed into a feminine, inspirational, and dreamy showroom that is adorned with floral displays, Laura May Bridal branding, and a clean palette of soft pinks and creams complemented with marble textures. Our four luxury suites are uniquely themed to suit our bride’s personality and wedding day to individually curate her appointment for an enhanced sensory brand experience. So, if you’re a boho bride we would welcome you to our Amber Suite: a warm, ethereal, and creative space that is draped with Moroccan textures, exotic plants, floor cushions and lanterns. The Amethyst Suite is a bright, tranquil, and floral space that suits our classic bride decorated with wisteria, large mirrors, and gold accents. The Opal Suite offers a dreamy and imaginative space for our romantic brides with a cloud-like sofa, Nordic inspired ornaments and rounded architecture whilst our Moonstone Suite combines a feminine, intuitive, and rustic atmosphere for our beach brides with dried flowers, pebble shaped mirrors and fedoras.

Is there anything in your interior that makes your boutique stand out?

Our dried flowers ceiling displays adorn our showroom and match our infamous Laura May Bridal swing chair. Upon collecting their dress, our brides are gifted a dried flower bouquet to take home a part of Laura May Bridal that they will hold forever.

How do you approach your window displays?

Our window displays tell a story. Whilst it may be tempting to grab everything red when its Valentine’s Day, Laura May Bridal like to think outside of the box. Whilst it may be as simple as starting with a theme, such as ‘Autumnal’, our large windows are seamlessly connected with a story and to our brand ethos. Firstly, our mannequins are inclusive,  something that is incredibly important to us. We want our brides to feel accepted and beautiful, regardless of their shape, size, or skin colour, hence our commitment to representing all bodies through our mannequins and stock.
Good lighting and signage are key; however, we also like to avoid the predictable. Our dresses usually speak for themselves, and we do not want to clutter the windows, so we like to use minimalist additions to our window that tie into our theme but do not overbear the main focus of the displays - our beautiful dresses.

Finally, can you give us your tops three tips for creating a stunning interior?

1.    Seek design inspiration but make it your own.
2.    Don’t try and do every interior trend at once- remember less is more sometimes.
3.    Use mirrors to enlarge a small space.
