We needed new windows, so it all began with the design for them. As we were in another lockdown, it brought time, space and inspiration to do everything I had been wanting to do for years. I wanted to box the dress rails in and have new flooring, which then turned into a full scale renovation and there wasn’t a single thing we left unchanged.
I found it quite stressful when things took longer than expected. We actually had a car crash into the shop front a week before reopening, taking down the brand new windows which of course delayed us opening. At the time the car went into the shop it was devastating, but it gave me more time to perfect everything and I ended up replacing even more items inside of the shop ready for an even bigger comeback. The fun bit was picking and placing all of the soft furnishings: I have a love for interior design and I thoroughly enjoyed bringing my plans to life!
For the outside my inspiration was Jo Malone, and inside, the most important thing for me was for it to be me. I am the face of my brand, and the previous pink decor just wasn’t me. I take a lot of my interior inspiration for my home and now my store.
We have always had major Instagrammable backdrops, which have always been massively important to me and our customers for those ’Yes!’ moments. We caught the eye of many people with our old backdrops and this renovation was no different. Our colour palette has changed to black, gold and an array of neutrals, so we have created a gold leaf wall with huge umbrella blossom trees. We also have a laser cut wall of hearts mixed with changeable foliage and a pampas grass cloud above, along with three other areas for brides to have pictures taken against!
I wanted people to walk in and say ’wow’, and this is exactly what they do. The space is so eye-catching, and there is something to look at from every angle. The neutral colour palette makes the space very relaxing and we always make sure to use scents to awaken those senses. We play soothing jazz or chilled music, and we take care to switch this up at the right moment during the appointments!
Of course our backdrops make our boutique stand out, but also the way we display the dresses. It really is nothing less than five star! Now you have renovated the interior, how do you approach your window displays to ensure brides want to enter? Our windows are quite famous in town: we always go above and beyond with eye-catching displays, and everything is handmade by us in store as we are extremely creative. When changing the windows, it was a case of a complete remodel so now we have more space to work with.
1. Be sure to always stay true to your style but also to your ideal client. If a bride is spending thousands of pounds, they deserve to do that in a setting which makes them feel super special.
2. Have leeway in the budget - you will more than likely go over.
3. Your space is just as important as the dresses you buy, you should invest in each of them in the same way. At Wynter Isabelle, we vow to keep evolving, and so we have already made some changes since this renovation!
