With re-wear in mind, more and more brides and grooms are ensuring that the dresses selected for their very special maids are sleek and chic – and won’t be relegated to the back of the wardrobe post-wedding. In fact, 2024’s top trends are for styles that aren’t too twee, have a fashion edge, and are timeless enough to look good for years to come. Think special occasions, black-tie events, days at the races, and more. We catch up with four labels to discuss the trends for the year ahead that maids will love to don for future events.

For Miabelle, to achieve really wearable looks, the top trends are all focused on clean lines and figure-hugging silhouettes in luxury fabrics. “We have a glam vibe to our dresses; when designing, I’m inspired by red carpet looks that we’ve seen through the decades, from the 1950s to the present day. Our look is dressy and classic with a fashion edge,” says the label’s designer, Lydia Jones.

In terms of fabrics, satin is a popular choice, and crepe is a real winner for the brand. “I personally love the look and feel of a crepe dress. The way it hangs is elegant and expensive-looking. Which makes it a great choice for a wedding.” As well as the classic colour choices in pale tones and pastels, popular shades for 2024 and beyond include bright pinks and oranges, as well as bold and sultry black – such as the Roma dress.

Lydia tells us: “We wanted to explore the satin trend but in a wearable way for everyone – this pleated bodice and skirt are perfect, flattering across all sizes. The lace neck brings a little romance and can complement a lacy bridal look.”

In every new collection, TH&TH aims to craft styles that are fresh, easy to wear, and can suit a variety of body shapes. The label describes its style as exuding elegance, timelessness, and ethereal beauty. “We hold a strong love for mix and match dresses, which not only look beautiful in wedding photos but also provide a solution to the timeless challenge of finding a style that suits everyone.”

The label’s primary focus this season has been satin dresses, which remain a prominent trend. “When it comes to our favourite colour, it has to be our luxurious sage satin. It’s remarkably versatile for any season and complements a diverse range of skin tones,” says design director Kitty.

A particular highlight is the stunning Camilla dress, which is made from stretch satin and features a bodice adorned with twisted knot detailing, while the A-line skirt gracefully cascades to the floor. This versatile look would be great for re-wear at any black-tie event; the fabric adds the perfect touch of glamour, and the silhouette is timeless and super flattering.

Onlyway describes its style as elegant and classic with a modern twist – the label strives to create timeless and sophisticated looks for modern bridesmaids. Onlyway is also a big fan of the mix-and-match trend for maids, and particularly adores pastel or earthy tones for a bohemian-inspired array. “We continue to see brides moving away from traditional fabrics and instead opting for velvets and crepes,” says founder Sarah Rogers. “Warm browns, rusts, and deep greens create a natural and organic feel that is perfect for autumn or rustic-themed weddings. Velvets, on the other hand, add a luxurious and elegant touch, making bridesmaids stand out and create a visually striking contrast.”

Velvet gowns are having a real moment and suit the autumn, winter, and early spring seasons perfectly. Maids would be able to re-wear gowns for festive parties, chic family gatherings, and even for an extra special Christmas Day or New Year’s outfit. In a soft and luxe velvet fabric, Onlyway’s Flutter Sleeve style from the Wrap Collection is a head-turner. “It is a perfect fit for all body shapes,” says Sarah. “The soft sleeves create a feminine and romantic look.”

For True Bride’s Luna collection, it is all about details – and at the moment, bows are back; think big and beautiful. “Whether thin spaghetti straps with bows, single-layer chiffon shoulder details, or oversized bows on the back, we can’t get enough,” says the label’s Georgia Flynn. In terms of fabrics, Georgia tells us that brides are moving away from chiffon styles and are enjoying designs in glamorous charmeuse.

“Slinky charmeuse dresses are going to be huge, and we’ve expanded our palette this last year to include exclusive colours such as sage green, mauve, baby blue, hot pink, and more,” says Georgia. “Pastel shades will always be popular, but we’re seeing a move towards bold and bright colours like rich purples, deep blues, poppy reds, and the so on-trend bright pinks.”
A standout style this season is the red-carpet-worthy Leona. This dress has an fresh looking high halter-style neckline, which is perfectly matched with a slim silhouette, open back, and oversized bow to the back.
