When Two Become One: BBA x RBA Join Forces

Two of the industry’s most respected awards institutions - The Bridal Buyer Awards (BBA) and the Retail Bridalwear Association (RBA) - are uniting under a single event, which promises to elevate the standards of industry celebration and redefine what it means to be the best of the best.

If you’d told me 17 years ago, when I first opened the doors to Aurora Bride, that one day I’d be on the Retail Bridalwear Association (RBA) committee and helping shape an awards ceremony uniting the entire bridal industry, I’d probably have laughed and gone back to pretending to be the cleaner when an aggy mum walked in!

But here we are, nearly two decades later - which makes me feel so old -  and it’s genuinely exciting to share how the RBA and Bridal Buyer are teaming up to deliver something truly special at this year’s Bridal Buyer Awards in Harrogate.

Why Join Forces Now?

Let’s be honest, having the RBA Awards in September and the Bridal Buyer Awards in March never really made sense. It felt like we were dividing the spotlight when what we really needed was one, united celebration that everyone could rally behind.

Bridal Week Harrogate is the perfect place to bring it all together. It’s the only show that the whole industry attends, and there’s a certain magic to everyone being in the same room at the same time all happy (and dare I say it, fairly tipsy?)

Designers, boutiques, suppliers and stylists all in one glittering, occasionally Prosecco-fuelled ballroom ready to mingle and share horror stories and congratulations.

This partnership is about bringing clarity, credibility and a bit of fun to our biggest night of the year. The RBA has lent its heart and integrity to the process, with our brilliant Anneleise and Nicola proudly joining the judging panel for the supplier awards. I can honestly say they approached it with so much care - it meant something to them, and that really matters.

Strength in Community

What I hope this collaboration shows is that this industry is better when we come together. The Awards should recognise our creativity, resilience and hard work both for the bridal stores on the front line and those designers and wholesalers who give their all to back us up. This isn’t just about a shiny trophy on a shelf (though they do look fabulous under boutique lighting) - it’s about saying “We see you. You’re doing brilliantly.”

And perhaps best of all? We get to celebrate that together.

What’s New?

The RBA has added its own flavour, of course - yes, the legendary raffle is back, and we’re hoping to up the ante this year (I’m whispering two designer handbags, but don’t hold me to it as we haven’t actually been shopping yet).

We’ve also introduced three RBA-voted awards, giving our wonderful member stores a real voice in the voting process. It’s such a great way to let the people who know the work inside and out help shape who gets recognised.

A Message to This Year’s Finalists

By now, the votes are in and the finalists announced - and to each and every one of you: congratulations. Whether you own the business or are part of the incredible team behind it, your hard work has been noticed. And let’s be honest, I think our teams love it even more than we do. This is their night too, to get dressed up, feel valued, and maybe (just maybe) win something other than “best at controlling the jealous sister award.”

We cannot wait to celebrate with you all in Harrogate. Pack your heels, plan your outfits and prepare to cheer until you’re hoarse.

Because this year, it’s going to be better than ever.
