Ahead of Bridal Week Harrogate, we chat with designer Marina Adamou from Paul Zeni Couture to find out more about their current collection and what sets their designs apart in the industry.
I (Marina) have been designing wedding dresses for over 35 years. In 2018, with my late husband, I launched Paul Zeni at Bridal Week Harrogate.
Our dress structure is something I am told sets our designs apart. Across all of the styles that we make, we make sure that there is great structure. This helps brides of all shapes and sizes feel most confident wearing a Paul Zeni design. Despite everything that has happened over the last couple of years, personally and professionally, we are still going strong thanks to the fantastic support from our stockists. One of our biggest secrets to success is reliability: I am always available to help and guide any of our stockists.
Many things inspire my collections: watching classic films, speaking with brides, looking at many different fabrics and laces, keeping an eye on which of our designs are selling well and much more. I always sketch and save ideas for the next collection.
The creative process at Paul Zeni Couture starts with hundreds of sketches. I then look to find the fabric if not already decided, and start to make the pattern and a calico of each style. Afterwards, I will make amendments, and when happy, make the sample. Again, some changes may be made before the final dress is shown at the show. Great team work is needed for this process!
It’s so important to meet stockists and showcase our latest collections. It’s also important to analyse the bestsellers from our current collection. Bridal Week Harrogate is the best place to do this. We also look forward to catching up with everyone!
