Songbird is the latest collection from pioneering bridal brand Halfpenny London. The new designs showcase designer Kate Halfpenny’s love for her craft, with every piece a celebration of creativity and innovation.

The collection, that showcases 18 new pieces, prominently features bold, graphic lines juxtaposed with soft and floaty fabrics that keep in time with Kate’s signature fashion-forward style.

Each piece has been elegantly assembled, with a deep focus on skill and artistry. Soft puff sleeves are adorned with French knotted florals, appliqued lace peeks from inside pockets and layers of silk create a striking, tiered form. In addition, floor-length, sheer organza creates a dual silhouette over Mikado cigarette pants, achieving the perfect mix of modern and romantic.

Kate Halfpenny, commented, “My initial inspiration for the songbird collection came from an abandoned bird’s nest I found in the garden. It was so perfect and intricate and I was amazed that a bird was able to create such a masterpiece using only its beak. It was so precious and had immense meaning and value yet was made using only scraps.”

“We made a skirt called the Riri, which is cut from meters of silk organza. The fabric is cut into circles, then the centre is removed to create the delicious frills. There’s a lot of wastage created and I couldn’t bear to throw all the small circles and offcuts away, so I’ve been saving them.”

“I was desperate to find a way to repurpose the scraps and I came up with the idea to make them into the most beautiful little flowers for my new collection, each and every one handmade by my darling mum. She always taught me to find the beauty in the tiniest piece of cloth and it’s a philosophy I always try to live by.”

“Much like the bird painstakingly moulding her nest, I’ve thoughtfully crafted a collection of delicious heirloom pieces for brides-to-be to love and enjoy on their big day and many years to come.”
