Tell us about your 29 Atelier journey.

29 Atelier was founded in 2016. After working in the fashion industry and running my own bridal boutique for 10 years, I realised that British craftsmanship was in decline, with most productions being outsourced overseas. Wanting to be part of a resurgence to keep these skills alive and a more sustainable future, I decided to go to UCA to study Fashion Atelier.

Studying whilst balancing two small children and a day job was no small feat, but I was able to learn the slow fashion techniques of design, pattern creation and couture sewing I was so passionate about. Since graduating, I set up my own wedding dress atelier in South East London, designing and producing luxury gowns. After 4 years of growing the business, and a successful stockist in hand, I then took the leap to quit my part-time job and run 29 Atelier full time.

In 2022, as the industry reawakened, 29 Atelier was able to start building again post-pandemic. Growing its network of exclusive bridal boutiques in the UK and Europe, 29 Atelier is now going from strength to strength.

The Archive collection features timeless yet interesting couture inspired gowns that will stay in style for a lifetime. This sits alongside a seasonal collection which features more trend-led pieces for brides that want a statement style. The 2024 ‘Phoenix Collection’ draws inspiration from renewal.

I’m passionate that 29 Atelier dresses are designed to fit to perfection and ensure each bride feels the best version of themselves on the big day. Whatever your shape, size, personality there is truly something to suit everyone.

It’s more important than ever to be making steps forward in being more sustainable. How is 29 Atelier trying to achieve this goal?

My passion for sustainability and the environment is the thread for everything I do. As the business has grown, I now outsource my production, using a social enterprise in North London that strives to fly the flag for local slow fashion. I am mindful of every element that goes into my designs, favouring natural and recycled fabrics and trims where possible but never compromising on quality. With an emphasis on investment and reusability within the collections, I have an eye for detail which runs through every fibre of what we do; from the British handmade packaging we use to the smallest of buttons turned on this faire isle.

Talk us through the inspiration and key features of your top three dresses.

Meg

A signature silhouette for the house of 29 Atelier. This is a couture look with magnificent flowing skirt and dramatic train. 70’s Americana inspires the Meg neckline elevated with long drape ties. With a lightness and movement, this dress looks and feels incredible to wear.

Jagger

Inspired by the now-iconic ’Yves Saint Laurent’ suit worn by Bianca Jagger on her wedding day to Rolling Stones legend Mick. The Jagger dress is an iconic look which hones all those super cool 70’s vibes with an uncluttered clean silhouette, deep v neck-line and dramatic oversized bell-shaped sleeve. Made in our signature sumptuous silk crepe back satin.

Freya wrap top

Silk French chiffon wrap style top with oversized gathered sleeves finished with self-tied cuff and gros grain ribbon wrap fastening, the Freya top is the perfect addition to elevate and finish off one of our incredible dresses. We especially love pairing with our romantic tulle Goddess Grande skirt and / or our back less Athena bias cut dress. All three elements can also be put together so a bride can change her look throughout the day. Once more the Freya wrap is a perfect investment piece that can be subsequently worn again.
