Carta Branca speaks minimalism with premium effortless pieces for 2024. The new collection, Chapter IV, Maresía, evokes liberty and the depth of emotions surrounding evolution and change: a stunning fusion of Géraldine Simonnet, with the use of beautiful draping and complex technique, and Claudia Llagostera, with sublime minimalist taste and natural lines. Every single piece is made exclusively in their Portuguese atelier with the most refined craftsmanship.

Talk us through the creative process?

First, I get my inspiration from the street, books and films. I get inspired by (street) fashion, the moments we are living or the specific bride that I am going to dress. I organize my ideas in my head, then I put them into a sketch. Then the pattern is made and a sample is prepared to define the shape and fabrics and then we make the final garment with all of these corrections.

What would you say is the biggest part of the success of Carta Branca?

I think that the success of the brand is the quality, sophistication and the care and love with which each garment is created. From the beginning to the end. Mixing the tradition of what is a “well done dress” with the vanguard of the modern design.

What are your key influences when designing?

Old movies, fashion books. I like street style fashion. Another great source of inspiration are the fabrics. Sometimes they speak to you and give you ideas by themselves.

What are your favourite pieces from the Chapter IV Maresía collection?

The Naiade dress parallels the refreshing and invigorating scent of the salty air. Fluid sleeves for smooth and delicate motions. The feeling of change and evolution represented in its soft silhouette.

Essaouira brings the feminine and amorous touch to Maresía. With its light tulle overlay, it carries the calming effect of salty mist on the body and mind.

Jericoacoara’s clean lines and cuts create a stunning transitional dress. Much like drops of seawater evaporating and reaching new land, this dress brings a bright look into moving through new places.

Can you divulge any upcoming project secrets for the near future?

We have in mind to surprise you with a very powerful collection. Very fresh and daring ideas but elegant and sophisticated at the same time. I dare to say that we represent a current, strong woman with a lot of personality.
