From the runway 2023: Sasha Loochi

We caught up with the Sasha Loochi team to discuss the hot new designs as seen on this year’s Bridal Week Harrogate runway, and found out more about the fabrics in their latest collection.

Where did you look for creative inspiration when designing the pieces?

Women and their well-being inspires me. I want women to feel comfortable in my dresses and to feel absolutely happy. Travelling is inspirational too, as our dresses complement the most beautiful places in the world. And of course, cruise weddings, ceremonies on boats, on cliffs and in jungles, and on white sand in the Maldives inspires me.

What was it like seeing the designs come to life on the catwalk?

I had a mix of emotions. On the one hand, I felt immense pride for our work. On the other hand, I was concerned about presenting our collection in the best possible way to a professional international audience, including colleagues, potential customers, press, and media.

Can you talk us through the design process for this collection?

I feel inspired and create sketches. After that, we choose the best ones and start searching for suitable fabrics and details, simultaneously developing and refining the pattern of the product. After fittings and discussing details, we make final adjustments and sew the product in its final form.

What fabrics and materials did you incorporate into these pieces?

We primarily work with blended fabrics as they possess the properties that can ensure a proper appearance for the dress: blended silk, cotton jacquard, chiffon. Our iconic gown MARIA would be a perfect example of our fabric choice. We are proud of how the dress flows down and chic it looks. We also love creating wedding sets like top-skirt or top-trousers and love to pair dress and suits with detachable details, like corsets or maxi skirts. Each piece includes special handmade elements such as beaded embroidery, feather details, and micro-draperies. We pay special attention to pattern design to ensure the dress shapes elegantly. Some of our products come with matching accessories like gloves, bandanas, choker-style neck flowers and scarves.

There is so much pressure for designers to come out with new collections season after season - how do you keep your designs fresh?

Despite being a relatively young brand, we are evolving with our lovely brides. This collection offers simple and comfortable but chic and feminine bridal gowns far from traditional wedding fashion with its unbreathability, heaviness and excessive embellishment. That’s what we do - we focus on wearability of our gowns, keeping them extremely feminine and chic. So I don’t feel pressure, just pure inspiration and being ahead of the time.

Why did you decide to take part/why do you think that the Bridal Week Fashion Shows are important?

The Bridal Week Fashion Shows are the source of priceless feedback from industry professionals, not to mention the marketing and content potential of showcasing in such a fabulous location in front of the eyes of prospective customers and partners.

Do you have any trend forecasts for the year ahead? What’s going to be popular with brides in 2024?

As far as I’m concerned, currently, fitted sparkling minimalist dresses or lightweight flowing fabrics without embellishments, with simple silhouettes that accentuate the wearer’s merits, are trendy. I believe we perfectly align with current and future fashion trends. In some sense, we even go ahead the bridal fashion with our revolutionary designs.

Which particular piece are you the proudest of? Can you tell us a little bit about it?

My favourite dress is Athena - it embodies the essence of our collection and can be called the face of the brand. The flowing silhouette and absolute proportional beauty. Every movement of the dress reflects the light breeze leaving a magical trail in memory, with 7.5 meters of the thinnest chiffon and completely hand draped corset base. Each and every fold is unique.
