Vintage-inspired bridalwear designer Eliza Jane Howell will be showcasing her new collection, ‘The Grand Voyage’, at White Gallery
Eliza Jane Howell’s designs are famous for the way they elegantly evoke the glamour of eras gone-by. Her latest collection, ‘The Grand Voyage’, is inspired by the 18th century custom of noble gentry visiting the great cities of Europe, taking in the culture and sophistication from each new place they explored.
These ‘grand voyages’ were educational rites of passage and could last for months or even years, allowing the traveller to truly immerse themselves in the unique cultures of every city they visited across Europe. Whether they were studying the ancient ruins of Rome, admiring the masterpieces of Renaissance and Baroque artists or listening to the great musicians of their day, they were enriched by their travels.
By the time the travellers returned home, they were fluent in a number of European languages, and had fascinating works of art and literature to enhance their family estates. Taking the sophistication of these accomplishments on board, Eliza Jane Howell has been inspired to create dresses that invoke the excitement of adventure and the elegance of Europe in the 18th century.
