Rewritten has been known and loved for its fresh and wearable bridesmaids’ styles since it launched in 2016. This season, they have turned up the volume with a brand-new bridal line, The Bridal Edit – it is utterly contemporary in style, with sustainability at its core. Bridal Buyer chats with the label’s Senior Marketing Executive, Ella Yeoman, to find out more. If you want to have an in-depth look at the brand as a whole, read our exclusive interview in Issue 5, 2024 here.

The Bridal Edit features five dresses, a jumpsuit, and bridal separates that include a skirt, trousers, tops, and a blazer, which can be worn together to create a personalised look. All of Rewritten’s styles are designed in-house by co-founder Fran, who has loved transferring what she has learned about bridesmaid styles into this fresh bridal capsule line. “There is a piece for every bride in this sustainable collection, from the rehearsal dinner to civil ceremony, evening outfit, or full wedding day look,” says Ella. “With re-wear in mind, the dresses can be shortened to make them more wearable and different from the look you’ve had on your wedding day.”

So, what does sustainability mean to Rewritten as a brand? “With 92 billion tons of clothing ending up in landfills every year, the fashion industry is one of the world’s biggest polluters, and we want to do all we can to help and change that,” says Ella. “We design our styles with re-wear in mind, use considered fabrics and recyclable packaging. Sustainability is such a big part of our brand and the fundamental principles behind everything we do.”

One of the measures Rewritten has put in place to boost sustainability is the fabrics used – bamboo satin and 100% recycled polyester for the lining – plus all the dresses are made in North London. “Bamboo satin is a biodegradable and flowing satin made from bamboo, a plant that grows much faster than other crops and requires less water,” explains Ella. “For each collection we design and make, we attend trade fairs to source the fabrics. We knew when designing The Bridal Edit that we wanted it to be a fully sustainable collection. The Bamboo satin is from Turkey.”

For added empowerment for the wearers, the styles are named after some of the most iconic females in history. The most popular styles include the Dolly bridal dress – a bias-cut, high round neck bridal dress with ostrich feather trim on the sleeves and a subtle side split. The Marianne dress - a crossover halter neck dress with long neck ties and a small train. The Chrissy dress - bias-cut, with cross spaghetti straps and a sweeping train. The Annie bridal jumpsuit - featuring long sleeves, a side zip, tie front fastening, and palazzo flowing trousers, designed to be worn with either the tie to the front or back. Bridal separates include the Patti Blazer - a single-breasted tailored bridal blazer, designed to be worn with the Nancy sequin top or Cyndi camisole, and either the floor-length Gwen skirt or high-waisted Lulu trousers.

There is no denying that the line feels really cool and special, and in closing, Ella tells us: “We are working with stockists such as Melle Cloche in Glasgow and MiiMii Couture in Derbyshire, who will be stocking The Bridal Edit, and we hope to see our sustainable Bridal Edit in retailers such as Selfridges and Harrods at some point.”
