For brides craving a lace wedding gown that blends regal elegance with a modern edge, look no further than our Style of the Week from Anna Georgina’s breathtaking new collection
Created by South African designer Kobus Dippenaar, Anna Georgina Bridal is a luxury label renowned for its bold, fashion-forward designs. We admire the fashion house’s blend of romance with high-fashion allure, along with its exquisite craftsmanship, dramatic silhouettes and sultry yet sophisticated aesthetic.
The latest collection – the Royal Reinvention of Timeless Elegance – is truly captivating, thanks to the balance of timeless elegance with a modern edge. “We are excited to present a collection that honours the heritage of bridal fashion, while daring to push boundaries,” says Kobus. “Every gown tells a story of regal elegance, designed for the modern bride who seeks not only beauty but also a connection to the artistry of the past.”
The new collection features gowns with daring necklines and a mix of structured bodices with fluid skirts that create striking movement. A highlight is the stunning Mira dress, with a soft A-line silhouette that skims the hips, and combines those defining elements of classic elegance and modern shape. “This style features a flattering, fitted bodice and a gently flared skirt, which hugs the hips before flowing outward toward the hem,” explains Kobus. “The soft A-line silhouette creates a balanced look that highlights curves while still maintaining a graceful, flowing effect."
The dress is a triumph of texture and movement, offset with beautiful detailing. Kobus tells us that it was important to use fabrics that balance both soft feminine and bold masculine elements. “The key is blending contrasting textures, colours, and design elements in a way that creates harmony while reflecting the distinct energy of both sides."
The designer goes on to explain that layering fabrics with different textures in wedding dresses creates a rich, visually dynamic effect that can elevate the overall design. “The technique allows for both aesthetic and tactile contrast, helping the dress feel luxurious and full of depth,” he says.
The design has evolved from the initial inspiration into something that’s beautiful, detailed and – very importantly – easy to wear. Kobus explains that a creative spark came from Marie Antoinette’s wedding dress, worn for her marriage to Louis-Auguste (later Louis XVI) in 1770. “It was an iconic piece of fashion history. The style of the dress was quintessentially French Rococo, designed to reflect both opulence and royal stature.”
From here, the style developed into a contemporary iteration that balances style and functionality. The low-back design often adds a sensual, modern touch, while the supportive features of the modern square neckline ensure the bride feels confident and secure throughout the day. “A dress with two straps on the shoulders can be a great choice for both support and comfort,” Kobus explains. “The straps help keep the dress in place while allowing freedom of movement, which is perfect for dancing or enjoying the event without worrying about slipping.”
From the fabric to the silhouette and the fresh, modern neckline there is so much to adore about Mira by Anna Georgia. Discussing favourite features, the designer tells us that lace is one of the key elements of the style. “A wedding dress featuring bold lace can create a striking and powerful look, combining classic romance with modern sophistication,” says Kobus. “This lace is intricate and has a strong presence in the design.”
We are in no doubt that anyone wearing Mira will feel confident, comfortable and look heavenly. “The bride will likely feel like she’s floating on air, radiating that goddess-like aura.” The collection as a whole is accomplished and detailed, and we can’t wait to see it up close at White Gallery this April.
