The latest collection from Indie Bride London, Whispers of Apricity, is a stunning and thoughtfully crafted line of sustainable bridalwear. Apricity is a poetic word meaning the warmth of the sun in winter.

Indie Bride London’s designer Miina Laitsaari explains: “Drawing inspiration from apricity and the wintry terrain of Finland, my home country, the Whispers of Apricity collection reflects the quiet beauty of this magical winter landscape: the deep cracking sounds of icy lakes, the soft thud of heavy snow falling from tree branches, the icy flakes slipping through your fingers like white sand, the tranquil stillness of snow-blanketed forests, the creak of untouched snow underfoot, and the muted silence of serene snowy vistas."

Style of the Week: Lumi

One gown in particular has captured our hearts – the Lumi dress. Fittingly, "Lumi" means snow in Finnish. The gown is crafted from a blend of organic ramie and organic cotton. “I chose this fabric because it’s lightweight, breathable, and comfortable, perfect for creating a relaxed and carefree wedding look,” says Miina. “The fabric has a beautifully subtle crinkled texture that gives the dress a fresh, natural, and slightly bohemian vibe. The organic bamboo lining ensures it feels as luxurious as it looks.”

Indie Bride London’s Lumi dress combines structure and softness in its silhouette. The top features light rigilene boning for subtle support and a defined shape, while the skirt flows in a voluminous A-line, creating a sense of movement and ease. “Despite its fullness, the skirt feels incredibly lightweight, almost like wearing a feather, thanks to the airy, delicate fabric,” Miina adds.

Design Innovation

In designing the dress, Miina aimed to innovate with directional cuts and crinkled-texture fabric. “I wanted to create something entirely fresh for the collection,” she says. The result is a strapless dress with a bodice constructed from meticulously arranged pieces cut in various directions. This technique enhances the texture of the dress and creates subtle visual interest. Similarly, the skirt’s panels were cut in different directions to maintain a cohesive yet dynamic aesthetic.

The detachable sleeves were integral to the dress’s concept. “Sleeves are a particular passion of mine,” says Miina. “They bring character and charm, while completing the overall silhouette. For this dress, they add a playful, bohemian touch and offer versatility – transforming the gown from a romantic daytime look to a modern, relaxed evening style.”

Favourite Features

The finishing details are what make Lumi truly special. Miina’s use of British lace is a signature feature of her designs. “I’ve always been drawn to British laces – they’re timeless and versatile, adding an extra layer of detail. Even a subtle lace trim, like the one on the back neckline, ties the design together and keeps it connected to our heritage while embracing modernity.”

Miina’s personal favourite element of the Lumi dress is the skirt. “It’s flowy, voluminous, and feels so light – it’s as if it were made for twirling. It brings a sense of joy and movement that I think brides will absolutely adore.”
