We interviewed Jenny Williams from Maggie Sottero Designs at Bridal Week London 2022 to find out more about their latest collection seen on the Bridal Week London catwalk and the inclusivity their brand promotes.
Maggie Sottero Designs’ latest collection is all about inclusivity and catering for every body type, shape and desire of its brides. At this year’s Bridal Week London, Maggie Sottero Designs showcased a selection of exquisite designs to flatter all silhouettes: from striking A-lines and flowing Tulle skirts to beautiful curve hugging gowns. Each design brought individuality and elegance, ensuring that the brides who wear them feel confident and flawless.
We spoke to Jenny Williams from Maggie Sottero Designs, to discuss their latest collection as seen on the Bridal Week London runway:
We showed 3 collections on the runway, and we showed every single dress in those collections. We make sure that we have a double of every dress so that people can see it on the runway and then they can come and touch and feel the dress. The dress called ‘Scarlet’ is absolutely stunning. Its bold red colour meant that when the model came out onto the runway there was an audible pause because everyone had their phones out taking photos. The colour just pops. I have tones of favourites but that one really stands out.
There has been a lot of demand for higher necklines and so we have really catered to that. We like to have a lot of diversity in our silhouettes as every retailer has different areas they need to buy for – they are buying for what the brides ask for, so we have ensured we do great curvy silhouettes. Our retailers want to see everything that’s on offer so it’s a real mix – people are buying strategically for their target markets.
It’s a true reflection of society because the UK is so diverse. Not everyone is a size 8 - the standard size is a size 16 now and we’ve got to be able to cater for every bride that walks through that door. All dresses look good in a size 8, it’s when you move back through the rail to the size 16s and 18s that the diversity and catering for these body types lacks. We think it’s important to have dresses that look good in our size 18s and size 20s.
We think it’s important to bring our collections to our retailers, face-to-face. We’ve done so much over zoom and with online purchasing, this way we can have real in-person conversations with our stockists and it’s an experience that we enjoy.
