Kate Bevington reveals the success story behind the world-renowned bridal label, and what to expect from this season’s collection ahead of its highly anticipated Harrogate reveal.

Tell us the company’s history, how you started and how the brand has developed.

Monica Loretti originated as a bridal manufacturing company - producing high quality gowns for suppliers in the industry. From here we moved onto employing our own designers, pattern cutters and seamstresses. The Monica Loretti brand name now boasts four separate collections, one collection per year and each with its own personality. The size range is from 6-28 as standard, however we now also have a Curvy range which will manufacture to a size 40. This season see’s the launch of our Bridal Essentials department... this will include petticoats, dressing gowns, hangers and veils, along with our Monica Loretti Cocktails range.. a capsule collection of gowns suitable for bridesmaids, Mother of the Bride/Groom, Occasion wear, Cruise wear and partywear!

What sets your bridal designs apart from others in the industry?

All of our gowns are designed by our in house designers, our pattern cutters are working from our factories, they are stitched by our own seamstresses and the lace is produced in our own speciality lace factories. ALL of our factories are based in Europe, enabling us to provide very quick lead times and also ensure that the costs remain affordable. Everything we design and manufacture is unique and has a very European feel. Every one of our gowns can be adapted to your bride’s specifications, we are able to make any changes your bride would like to the gown, so it is exactly what she wants and she can feel her most radiant.

What is the brand’s proudest achievement?

We are super proud that we have just been nominated as a finalist for this years Bridal Buyer International Supplier of the Year Award! As the brand has only been with us in the UK for the past three years this is a great achievement for us, and wonderful for our customers to know that they are working with a recognised brand in the UK.

Can you share any sustainable practices or initiatives you incorporate into your designs?

We have just been made even more sustainable by adding solar panels to all of our factories. As oppose to flying our goods here, we also drive them from Europe to our hub in the UK and we then distribute from there, reducing our carbon footprint.

Can you tell us three interesting facts about the brand?

We own all of our own factories - and we also make our own individual lace!
We are able to personalise your veils for our bride, enabling a nod to family members unable be with them on their wedding day, their own wedding date or names... or some people even choose to name their pets!
In the UK the brand is distributed and sold by RKB Agencies. Rob and Katie are a husband and wife team with over 40 years experience between them of bridal agencies and distribution!

What inspired your latest collection, and how do you stay current with bridal fashion trends?

Inspiration is always taken from lot of different areas of our lives around us.. This season we have a lot of accessories that can be added to your daytime style enabling the brides to show off their own individuality. Adding bows, sleeves, boleros or skirts for your day look which can be removed to give your bride a different styling for the evening continues to be a trend which we have embraced along with over sizes bows on soft silhouettes, 3D embellishments on bodices and skirts, stunning lace trains and beautiful feature backs.

Describe your latest collection in three words.

Romantic, Elegant, Stylish

Can you describe the creative process, from initial concept through to final product?

The full creative process is managed by Monica Loretti, from the original planning meetings, the sketches, designs, pattern makers, fabric choices, and seamstresses who will sew all of the elements together. Everything is kept in house and nothing is out-sourced, ensuring that the fit and quality of a Monica Loretti gown is always the highest.

What design trends have emerged from the collection (silhouettes, materials, embellishments)?

Over sized bows on soft silhouettes, 3D embellishments on bodices and skirts, detachable and removeable sleeves, straps, skirts, boleros, gloves! Anything where the dress can help to show off your own individual style.

Is there a single piece which embodies the vision of the whole collection? Can you tell us more about it?

Personally, my favourite is style 8335... I love the simplicity of the silky satin, it has a deep halter neck with a detachable scarf which drapes softly down the back adding elegance, delicate straps running across the back and a small puddle train.

Why is Bridal Week so important to you?

We love bridal week and are looking forward to returning to Harrogate this March. Its a great place to meet up with old friends and colleagues, chat through all of the new designs with old and new customers, show off our new collections and this March we have the added bonus of the Bridal Buyer Awards!

What does the future hold for you? Do you have any exciting upcoming plans you can share with us?

Every season we add another string to our bow.. last season we added veils, and this season we have gone to another level on our essentials range, adding petticoats, hangers and dressing gowns. This season also sees the first of our cocktail collections... this is a very exciting addition for us, a range of occasionwear dresses, in a large variety of colours with fab delivery and brilliant prices! We can’t wait to show everyone in Harrogate... These are great as cruise, mother of the bride/groom and bridesmaid dresses.
