We caught up with Scottish bridalwear brand Christie Couture, which is run by husband and wife team Simon and Lesley Christie.
Lesley Christie started Christie Couture in 2012, and they were the only Scottish retailer of Pepe Botella. This was a great way for them to establish themselves as an exclusive bridal retailer in the Scottish market, before branching out into their own collection.
“Lesley has been involved in fashion and design for her whole life,” Simon explains, “So she started to see what designs sold and which ones were proving more popular than others. It was this that planted the seed for the idea to design and commission her own collection, in 2014.”
The Christie Couture Collection was originally only available in their own store, but within three years the pair felt ready to share their 2017 collection with other retailers.
“The brand’s signature style is to have affordable couture,” reveals Simon, “Everyone wants a sensational wedding dress without breaking the bank.” The Christie Couture brand has been created to provide stylish wedding dresses for everyone – from all walks of life and age groups.
The collection currently consists of 12 bespoke designs and at present, has no stockists. The Christie Couture team have been hard at work getting everything ready for their debut Harrogate show this year – they will be showing their collection but will also be looking to reach out to other bridalwear brands to become their stockists too.
The designs are typically classic with a bit of a twist and are made using Mikado, satin, crepe and lace. All of them boast fabulous corsetry within the dresses, designed to create the best silhouettes. They retail in the Christie Couture boutique with a price range of £1,400 to £1,600.
When describing what makes their collection special, Simon had the following to say: “) We feel that affordability is always on the forefront of brides buying choices when selecting a gown throughout the industry. With Pepe Botella we had a high end collection of high quality couture gowns, very bespoke.
“With our brand, Lesley has managed to retain this element of high quality that’s evident when a bride views and tries on any gown to the collection but she’s managed to incorporate affordability too. This is key and achievable with Lesley designing in-house and controlling the direction of the collection, design and materials that make up The Christie Couture Collection.”
As this is the first time they have exhibited at The Harrogate Bridal Show, we stopped by to see how they were getting on - see our catch up with Lesley below!
