According to Pinterest Predicts, 2026 weddings are focussed on storytelling. Couples aren’t following a formula, they’re building something unique to them, from expressive fashion to deeply personal details

Pinterest’s latest wedding report confirms what many in the industry have already sensed: “Couples aren’t just planning weddings, they’re rewriting them.”
There is a really clear direction throughout the report, and that is that, personalisation is no longer a detail, it’s the foundation of wedding planning.
Backed by more than 7 billion wedding-related searches over the past year, the data reveals a move away from formulaic weddings towards something more expressive and individual. The key driver? A desire to reflect personality, which is increasingly prioritised over tradition.
A tale of two directions emerges in wedding colour palettes, grounded, nature-led tones or luminous, opalescent finishes. Searches for plum and olive wedding schemes have risen by an extraordinary 1,380%, signalling a move towards moody, organic colour stories. Muted terracotta (+545%), fig (+515%) and merlot (+370%) further reinforce this appetite for rich, nature-inspired tones, alongside softer shades such as dusty olive, raspberry and muted rose.
In contrast, Pinterest’s ‘Ethereal Shimmer’ trend introduces a more fantastical aesthetic. Searches for ppalite (+2,710%) and opalescent (+685%) point to a growing interest in iridescent finishes, chrome accents and jewel-toned palettes. Hues such as midnight teal, purple opal and pastel pink bring a soft, dreamlike quality with a modern edge.
Wedding fashion is becoming more stylised and adaptable, with looks designed to evolve throughout the day. The continued influence of the 1980s is evident, with searches for ‘1980s wedding dress’ up 1,090%. Structure and shaping are also key, with ‘drop waist corset wedding dress’ increasing by 1,405% and ‘pearl corset wedding dress’ by 175%.
Layering plays a central role in this shift, too. Searches for wedding dresses with boleros (+270%), cape dresses (+185%) and cape veils (+110%) highlight a continued desire for transformable styling, which allows brides to adapt their look from ceremony to reception and throughout the day with ease.
Bridal accessories are no longer an afterthought, they are central to the overall look – we love the impact they are having. Headwear is leading the charge, becoming bolder and more expressive. Fascinators have seen a dramatic increase (+1,865%), alongside Juliet caps (+245%), pearl headdresses (+225%) and custom wedding hats (+155%). Tiara styles are also evolving, with both bandeau (+140%) and forehead tiaras (+125%) gaining traction.
Footwear is equally statement-driven. Brides are treating shoes as a key fashion moment, with ballerina heels (+190%), crystal heels (+145%), chandelier heels (+135%) and bedazzled styles (+115%) all on the rise. Colour is playing a leading role, too, with searches for plum, green and pink lace bridal shoes increasing.
Elsewhere, accessories continue to push into more expressive territory, from red veils and chunky bangles to lace gloves, parasols and tulle petticoats.
Fashion and personal styling aside, the report highlights a broader shift in how weddings are experienced – both for the couples and their guests. There is a growing emphasis on interaction and memory-making, with couples introducing analogue activities, tactile keepsakes and hands-on moments that encourage guests to engage meaningfully. This includes searches for everything from printable games and matchbox favours to video guestbooks and retro-inspired photo setups.
At the same time, venue styling is becoming increasingly layered and immersive. This includes bouquets crafted from unexpected materials, sensory tablescapes, featuring herbs and produce, and lo-fi tech touches such as camcorders and slideshows.
